Luxury Watch Gallery Staff Sentenced to Jail, Caning & Fine for Stealing 12 Watches Worth RM2.6 Million

Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, said the 24‑year‑old accused was charged after being arrested for fleeing with 12 luxury watches from the premises where he worked in Bukit Jalil on 31 March.
He said the incident occurred at about 12:10 PM after the man took advantage of the moment when his colleague was at the rear of the premises.
“Checks on closed‑circuit television (CCTV) footage found that the suspect took the watches from the display counter before placing them into a black backpack and leaving the premises,” he said in a statement.
He added that the suspect was arrested on 1 April at the parking area of DC Mall, Bukit Damansara, by a team from the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (D4).
“Police seized a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch, an iPhone 16 Pro Max mobile phone, and four pawn receipts with a total value of RM672,000,” he said.
The man was remanded for three days until 3 April to assist in the investigation. The investigation papers were later referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, and the suspect was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust on 3 April.
The accused later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment starting from the date of conviction, one stroke of the cane, and a fine of RM20,000, or an additional 12 months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
