The 36-year-old man rushed out of the Pantai Police Station on Jalan Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, after being informed of his wanted status yesterday (16 December). Despite his attempt to run, the man was later arrested after being chased by several police officers not far from the scene.
“After the complaint counter staff checked the suspect’s MyKad, it was found that the suspect was an individual wanted by the police under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” Brickfields District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook, said.
According to Hoo, several members of the Pantai Police Station then chased the suspect, who fled towards the riverbank near a hotel on Jalan Pantai Baharu.
He was successfully arrested at the location without suffering any injuries
During his attempt to run, the suspect also knocked down a police officer who tried to stop him. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to obstructing a civil servant by fleeing from an inspection.
“The investigation is being conducted under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties.”
Hoo said the investigation papers will be referred to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office tomorrow with a proposed charge. The suspect is expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Court afterwards.
He will also be charged with the case that made him a wanted man by the Brickfields District Headquarters (IPD) Narcotics Division, reported Sin Chew.
