PDRM Probes Viral Video Of Man Allegedly Assaulting Motorcyclist After Loud Exhaust Noise Wakes His Baby

Recent footage has shed light on an incident in which a man was reportedly assaulted by another man at a convenience store in Mersing, Johor.

Captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), the footage shows the suspect confronting the victim before allegedly hitting him.

Following the viral video, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) issued a statement yesterday (29 September) addressing the incident, which took place on Jalan Ismail on 20 September at around 1:00 AM.

Mersing District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the local suspect became angry after claiming that the victim had cut in front of his vehicle and revved his motorcycle’s exhaust loudly.

He claimed that the loud noise caused his baby, who was in his wife’s arms, to wake up and cry.

“The suspect then assaulted the victim, who is also a local man. Following the incident, the victim sought treatment at a hospital and was found to have suffered injuries to his left cheek and abdomen,” he said.

Suspect could face up to one year in prison

Abdul Razak said the investigation papers have been completed and referred to the Johor Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

The suspect has since been ordered to face a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which will be brought before the Mersing Magistrates’ Court.

“If convicted, the suspect could face up to one year in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both,” he said.
