Indian Tourist Tells JPJ Lost Holiday Funds Forced Him to Sell Ice Cream on Unlicensed Motorbike in Subang Jaya

A 34-year-old Indian tourist caught in a road enforcement operation in Subang Jaya has attracted public attention after claiming he was forced to work temporarily as an ice cream seller following the loss of RM2,000 during his holiday in Malaysia.

The man was detained during the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Foreign Driver Enforcement Operation (PEWA), which began at 10 AM yesterday (16 June).

The tourist claimed he was left stranded without funds

According to the tourist, he arrived in Malaysia about 20 days ago for a vacation and had visited popular attractions such as KLCC. However, he claimed that his plans took an unexpected turn when he lost RM2,000 a few days into his trip.

“I came here for a holiday, but after losing my money, I had no choice but to work temporarily selling ice cream. The employer paid me RM50 a day,” he explained after being stopped by enforcement officers.

The man added that he already had a return flight ticket to India and was expected to leave Malaysia within the next few days. The daily wages, he said, were used to cover his meals and basic expenses while waiting for his departure.

However, authorities found that he was riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and that the vehicle’s road tax had expired.

Crackdown on traffic offences

Meanwhile, Harian Metro quoted Selangor JPJ Deputy Director Datuk Ahmad Kamarunzaman Mehat as saying that the operation resulted in 336 notices being issued for various traffic offences.

A total of 120 vehicles were inspected, with enforcement action taken against 34 vehicles involving 218 offences.

Among the most common violations detected were driving without a valid Competent Driving Licence (CDL), expired road tax, and a lack of insurance coverage. Overall, authorities seized 34 vehicles:

32 motorcycles
1 car
1 light-duty lorry

The integrated operation involved 36 JPJ Selangor officers and 30 enforcement personnel from the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) to ensure compliance with road regulations and address offences involving foreign drivers.
