An indoor cannabis farm caught fire in Thailand on 25 September, sending thick, pungent smoke across a residential area and reportedly leaving several people feeling “dizzy”.

Despite the rainy weather, many people gathered outside as firefighters used two fire engines to put out the blaze, which took approximately 30 minutes to bring under control.

An initial inspection found that the two-storey house had been converted into an indoor cannabis cultivation facility. The fire damaged a large number of cannabis plants and growing equipment on both floors.

A 47-year-old woman who worked at the cannabis farm said she noticed sparks coming from an electrical control box shortly before the fire. She then heard a sound resembling an explosion, after which the flames quickly spread.

The woman immediately contacted emergency services, while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“The thick smoke affected those at the scene”

Police are awaiting a detailed inspection of the property by forensic officers, and the total value of the damage has yet to be assessed.

The thick smoke also affected those at the scene, with firefighters, rescue workers, police officers, and some nearby residents reportedly experiencing dizziness and headaches after inhaling smoke from the burning cannabis plants.

While no injuries or deaths were initially reported, several people later developed symptoms after being exposed to the smoke.
