“She was quite well last night”- Tun Dr Mahathir Says He Didn’t Expect Tun Dr Hasmah’s Sudden Passing

The passing of beloved national figure Tun Dr  Hasmah Mohd Ali has saddened many Malaysians, following news that she passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) yesterday (28 September).

She leaves behind her 101-year-old husband of 70 years, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as well as their seven children, 18 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Tun M says he didn’t expect his wife to pass away so suddenly

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was caught off guard by the sudden passing of his beloved wife, Tun Dr Hasmah Mohd Ali.

In a video shared on his official Facebook page, Tun M was seen speaking with the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who had come to pay his last respects.

During their conversation, Tun M shared that his wife had appeared to be in good health the night before.

He also thanked the Pahang royal family for making the long journey to convey their condolences and pay their final respects.

Tun M remained by her side until her final moments

Their son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, shared that his father remained by Dr Hasmah’s side until her final moments, as reported by Harian Metro.

Another son, Mokhzani Mahathir, said their mother had been cheerful and in good spirits the night before, but her health suddenly deteriorated the following day.

Dr Siti Hasmah, who passed away at the age of 100, was accorded a state funeral and laid to rest at the National Heroes’ Mausoleum in Putrajaya.
