Man charged with murder of Irish woman in Melbourne

A 45-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an Irish woman in Melbourne, in Australia.

Police said emergency services were called to a house on Ferntree Gully Road yesterday morning, where the woman was found injured.

She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, police said a man was arrested nearby and taken into custody.

He was later charged with murder.

He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates' Court via video link and was remanded to appear before court again on 23 February 2027.

It is understood that he and the 30-year-old woman knew each other.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
