Status Orange rain warning in effect for three counties

A Status Orange rain warning is in effect for three counties overnight with flooding possible and "damage to homes and businesses likely".

The warning, for Donegal, Galway and Mayo, came into effect at 1am and will remain in place until 7am.

Very heavy and persistent rain with thunderstorms and lightning damage are possible.

Flooding, disruption and delays to public transport as well as very difficult travelling conditions are also possible.

A Status Yellow rain warning came into effect for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo from 9pm yesterday and will last until 9am this morning.

Localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and lightning damage are some of the possible impacts of the warning, Met Éireann has warned.

At 1am, this yellow alert transitioned into an orange warning for Donegal, Galway and Mayo.

A separate rain warning will come into effect for Cork and Kerry later this morning.

The Status Yellow alert will come into effect at 9am and remain in place until 9pm tomorrow night.

Met Éireann said there will be a spell of persistent rain, turning heavy at times.

Potential impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and outdoor events impacted.
