Watch: New space for LGBTQ+ young people opens in Dublin
by Sinéad Courtney, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieA new space for LGBTQ+ young people has just launched in Dublin city centre.
Belong To, the national LGBTQ+ youth organisation, has designed the space to be somewhere people can come to connect with others, take part in workshops and group activities, and access counselling services.
The space at their office in Dublin 2 was designed with input from young people who engage with the organisation.
"Safe spaces like this are so important for LGBTQ+ young people to feel like they belong and they can be themselves," youth worker Brenda Kelly told RTÉ News.
"We also know from our young people that come into the service that bullying and discrimination, and just generally feeling unsafe, is a lot higher among the community, so spaces like this are vital."
