Two dead in Croatia small plane crash

Two people were found dead late last night after a small plane flying from the Czech Republic crashed close to the coastal city of Zadar, Croatia, the authorities said.

According to the Croatian police, a search was launched after air traffic control sounded the alarm that the plane's signal was lost at around 4pm (3pm Ireland time).

The remains of the plane were found in the mountains of the Paklenica national park some 60 kilometres northeast of Zadar.

"The search for the missing ultralight plane was concluded around 10pm when members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service found the plane and two dead persons," the police said in a statement.

No information about the nationality of the passengers was revealed.

The police are set to secure the scene for an on-site investigation into the circumstances of the incident, to be carried out in the early morning hours.
