New e-scooter proposals before Cabinet

A ban on under-18s using e-scooters will be discussed by Cabinet today.

The new regulations proposed by Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien and Minister of State with responsibility for Road Safety Seán Canney will also make helmets and high visibility clothing mandatory for e-scooter users.

On-the-spot fines will also rise to €100 for all e-scooter offences, while the fee for the release of detained e-scooters will double.

The new rules will come into force in late August or early September.

Additional Uisce Éireann funding

Government ministers will also discuss a proposal to sign off on additional funding of €2 billion for Uisce Éireann.

Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers, Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris and Minister for Housing James Browne are jointly bringing the memo to Cabinet outlining details of the payment.

This funding is being provided to support the Government’s housing objectives to deliver 300,000 new homes out to 2030.

Cabinet will hear that increasing water and wastewater service is critical to increasing housing supply across the county.

The €2 billion funding was previously announced as part of last year’s revised National Development Plan.

Separately, Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley is bringing a memo to cabinet to seek approval and publication of the first Action Plan under the National Strategy for Women and Girls 2025–2030.

Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee will bring an update on the EU Presidency.
