Flooding possible amid rain warnings for five counties

Heavy spells of rain are expected to sweep across much of the west and northwest of the country as two separate Status Yellow warnings are in effect for five counties.

A Status Yellow rain warning for Donegal is in effect until 4am tomorrow.

Met Éireann is warning of difficult travelling conditions and localised flooding.

A separate warning for Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo is also in effect, with heavy spells of rain forecast.

The warning will be in effect until 4am tomorrow.

The forecaster said that outbreaks of rain and drizzle, which will develop in the west, will gradually spread eastwards this morning and become widespread by this afternoon, with the rain heaviest in the west and north.

Met Éireann said that generally the weather outlook is mixed and changeable for the next few days, with overnight temperatures dropping to around 4C in some areas.

However, Monday will see a return to more milder conditions, with highs of around 19C expected.
