Man, 33, charged with murder of his mother in Galway
by Pat McGrath, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieA 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in Galway earlier this year.
Dubravko Ostojic of 52 Claí Mór, Ballybrit, Galway was brought before Galway District Court this morning.
Milena Ostojic, 65, died after sustaining serious injuries at her home at 52 Clai Mór, Ballybrit, on 24 April.
Detective Garda Gerry Carroll gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution, during the brief hearing before Galway District Court.
Mr Ostojic made no reply when the charges were put to him at 10.10am.
His solicitor, John Martin, told the court the accused had very good English and that there was no necessity for an interpreter.
Judge Fiona Lydon said bail was a matter for the High Court, given the seriousness of the charges.
Garda Sergeant Claire Heneghan told that court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had instructed that a previous charge, under Section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act, be withdrawn by the State.
Judge Lydon noted this and struck out that charge.
She remanded Ostojic in custody, to appear via videolink at next Monday's sitting of the District Court.
