Yellow wind and rain warnings in effect for six counties

Status Yellow wind and rain warnings are in effect for six counties across the country.

A Status Yellow wind warning is in effect for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo came in to effect at midnight and is in place until 2pm this afternoon.

Met Éireann has warned of difficult travelling conditions, fallen trees and branches and debris or loose objects being displaced.

A separate Status Yellow wind and rain warning will be in place until 8pm tonight for counties Cork and Kerry.

The forecaster said there will be very strong and gusty southwesterly winds, along with squally heavy showers or longer spells of rain and a chance of hail and thunder.

Met Éireann warned there could also be a risk of spot flooding in Cork and Kerry.
