EU ministers, Central Bank governors to discuss energy

EU finance ministers and Central Bank governors are gathering in Dublin today for an informal meeting to discuss the energy crisis and instability in the Middle East.

They will be joined by Christine Lagarde president of the European Central Bank, Kristalina Georgieva managing director of the International Monetary Fund and finance minsters from Canada, the UK, Ukraine and Switzerland.

Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe, and Pablo Hernández de Cos, General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements, will also contribute to the discussion.

Ministers will talk about competitiveness and opportunities presented by new technologies such as AI as well as the potential for a windfall tax on energy companies.

The meeting takes place in Dublin Castle today and tomorrow.

Minister for Finance Simon Harris will chair the informal Ecofin meeting as part of Ireland's Presidency of the EU.

The IMF's Kristalina Georgieva will address the meeting on the potetial for AI to increase productivity and economic growth, as well as the economic and social challenges arising from its rapid development.
