RIP, Rob & Michele Reiner: Letters to the Editor — Dec. 19, 2025

· New York Post

The Issue: The murders of Rob and Michele Reiner allegedly committed by their son, Nick Reiner.

The world has lost a comedy legend: Rob Reiner will be missed as a director, actor and Hollywood luminary (“Haunting hunt for answers,” Dec. 18).

Nick Reiner should get a life sentence and receive psychiatric help in jail. Hopefully, the Reiners’ son will be brought back to reality as he spends time contemplating his actions in prison.

While I don’t agree with Rob’s politics, I’m saddened by the horrible news of his death. Reiner was a talented person who brought joy to many lives. Politics should not be involved in these situations.

Rob Reiner’s work has impacted generations of Americans. The characters, dialogues and visuals he brought to life in film and TV are woven throughout our culture. Rob loved our country, cared deeply about the future of our nation and fought for America’s democracy.

He and his wife Michele loved each other very much. I am devastated to learn of their passing. My thoughts are with their loved ones during this tragic time.

Tragic killings like this that appear to be a result of mental-illness medications combined with drug use are more common than most people realize.

Parents need more support with laws that require instant treatment, including drug-rehab centers. We need to stop making rehab a voluntary choice, especially if it’s determined that somebody can harm themselves or others.

Greg Raleigh

Washington, DC

The tragic murder of Rob Reiner and wife allegedly by his son is just one of many family murders happening in America. A few months back, a father threw his baby son into the Bronx River. This country is quickly rushing into a dystopian world.

Many Hollywood elites have privileged children who become drug addicts, alcoholics and even homeless because the parents are fed up with their lifestyles. The question is: why?

We always love our children, but we don’t have to like them if we don’t approve of their choices.

The Issue: Reactions to the Letters-to-the-Editor section on President Trump’s response to Rob Reiner’s death.

I wasn’t happy with the comments that President Trump made about the Reiner murders (“President Trump’s Terrible ‘R.I.P. Rob Reiner’ Rant,” Letters, Dec. 17).

But I also wasn’t happy with the comments that Rob Reiner made when Rush Limbaugh died. What goes around comes around.

John Ketelsen

Ocean, NJ

I didn’t expect to see a full page of criticisms of Trump’s comments after the murder of the Reiners. He said plainly and truthfully he wasn’t a fan of Rob Reiner and that Reiner had been very nasty and disparaging of Trump during both his terms — not a “warm and fuzzy” remark, but accurate.

What did these readers expect? A tearful Rose Garden eulogy, which would have been attacked anyway as a phony showing of regret?

Let’s not forget the obscene and hateful responses to Charlie Kirk’s murder. Has that ongoing spectacle of the left’s bitter and vile hatred been pushed under the rug and replaced with demands from Trump for politically correct statements?

Myron Hecker

I used to believe that Trump just being Trump was the reason for his crude and callous behavior. But his heartless mocking of Rob Reiner and his wife’s tragic murders is beyond the pale.
