Yankees checked in on resurgent Luis Garcia Jr. as desperate search for offense continues

This is a time of year that the Yankees, like many teams, make sure they canvas the whole market and know what is available.

But that they have inquired on Luis García Jr. of the Nationals, according to two sources, accentuates how badly they are pursuing offense.

 Because García is no natural fit for these Yankees.

 He is left-handed at a time when the need is greatest right-handed. He was a poor second baseman who was moved full-time to first this year at a time when Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt are filling the position.
