Female swimmer missing off Lovers Point after feared shark attack

A 55-year-old swimmer is missing after a feared shark attack off Lovers Point in California.

The unidentified woman was on a weekly swim with a club in Pacific Grove on Sunday when the group feared a “large splash” was an attacking shark, KSBW reported.

While the other swimmers all made it back to shore, the woman remained missing on Monday, after the initial search was halted overnight.

“She’s a 55-year-old blonde woman with blue eyes who is currently missing and who we’re searching for,” Pacific Grove police commander Brian Anderson told the outlet. 

Lovers Point Beach in Pacific Grove, and McAbee and San Carlos beaches in Monterey, are all shuttered through Tuesday over fears of a possible killer shark, according to the reports. 

First responders started the hunt for the missing simmer Sunday, suspending it around 8 p.m. before restarting it again on Monday.

The local police department is working with the US Coast Guard, Monterey Fire Department and other agencies during the desperate search.
