Trump and Mamdani’s friendly meeting: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 26, 2025

· New York Post

The Issue: President Trump and Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s friendly Oval Office meeting.

I was shocked to see President Trump suckered in by the mayor-elect (“Zo the big apple of his eye,” Nov. 22).

Zohran Mamdani will play nice until Trump’s out of office, and then he will revert to his true self.

Leopards do not change their spots; Mamdani is a socialist and antisemite.

It’s too bad Trump didn’t bring up the subject of antisemitism.

It would have been interesting to see the mayor-elect’s response.

Trump outmaneuvered the Democrats by bringing Mamdani into his orbit — though only time will tell if their relationship remains positive.

Mamdani has troubling anti-American and anti-Israel views and has been associated with terrorists and Hamas sympathizers.

Yet Trump gave the impression he would cooperate and focus on their shared goals for New York City.

He displayed discipline, restraint and a willingness to demonstrate leadership rather than pettiness.

With this behavior, Trump showed that one should keep friends close but enemies closer, leaving the ball in Mamdani’s court.

Hopefully, this is for the good of the country.

I hope no one thinks Trump promised Mamdani anything.

He only talked in generalities, saying he agrees that it would be great if Mamdani could make New York City safer and more affordable.

He did not promise to finance anything specific.

This means absolutely nothing.

All Trump really did was say “good luck.”

There is perhaps no surer sign of a serious character flaw in a political leader than Trump’s praise.

Russian President Vladimir Putin?

Trump has called him a “great guy.”

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un?

They literally wrote each other love letters.

Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas?

Trump is fond of him, too.

So is it any surprise that when Trump met Mamdani, it was love at first sight?

Trump surely knows that you don’t appease antisemites; you confront them.

By cordially greeting Mamdani in the White House, Trump missed the opportunity to publicly confront one.

The meeting was a nauseating display of obsequiousness on the president’s part.

Mamdani is a Hamas-loving, terrorist supporter in sheep’s clothing and Trump should never have treated him with kid gloves.

Of course, neither of them really trusts the other, but Trump didn’t need to get Mamdani off the hook when a reporter asked him if he still thought Trump was a fascist.

Nor did Trump need to throw Elise Stefanik under the bus and say that Mamdani is not a jihadist.

For appearances sake, Trump made nice to his guest.

At the same time, he scored big by making everyone happy.

Trump thrives on being a welcoming host on his own turf, but it’s also where he excels in sizing up his nemeses.

The handshakes, strokes and pats are all part of his repertoire.

This out-of-left field bromance between Trump and Mamdani is on par with the love fest between Trump and North Korea’s “little rocket man.”

Like the latter, this odd couple is bound to hit the skids — unless Trump has given up on his claim that America will never become a socialist country.
