Driver killed and child airlifted to hospital after three-vehicle crash

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident, and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
The collision happened on the A483 at Belan near Welshpool at around 6.15pm on Saturday evening and involved a red BMW X3, a blue Audi S4, and a white Toyota Yaris. The BMW and the Audi were travelling northbound while the Toyota was travelling in the opposite direction. Police say the driver of the Toyota Yaris died at the scene and a child passenger of the same car was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Dyfed-Powys Police say a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving and a second man, aged 33, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The road was closed overnight while specialist collision investigators carried out their enquiries before re-opening at 9.50am on Sunday.
Police are appealing for anyone who can help the investigation to come forward. A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision near Welshpool, yesterday (Saturday, 16 November). The collision, involving three cars – a red BMW X3, blue Audi S4, and white Toyota Yaris – occurred on the A483 at Belan, at approximately 6.15pm.
"Sadly, the driver of the white Toyota Yaris died at the scene. A child passenger of the same car was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. HM coroner and next of kin is aware. Specially trained police officers are supporting their family. Anyone with information that could help with the investigation, including anyone who was travelling along the road at the relevant time with dashcam footage, is asked to report it."
