Gravely ill little boy tells Queen 'what a happy event' as Camilla spends the day meeting sick Welsh children
by Taite Johnson · Wales OnlineQueen Camilla spent the day with seriously ill children from Wales as she hosted a tea party for them at her home in Clarence House. Six children got to meet Her Majesty thanks to Dreams and Wishes, a volunteer-run charity dedicated to helping children with life-threatening illnesses and their families by granting wishes, organising special events, days out and celebrations, and creating precious memories during challenging times.
The children and their families took an open carriage down The Mall, before enjoying a tea party and treasure hunt the royal house.
Seven-year-old Rupert Williams from Barry, was diagnosed with intestinal failure and chronic obstruction when he was just three years old and has been dependant on a life sustaining but high-risk treatment ever since.
Rupert was given a bravery badge from the Scouts presented to him by the Queen. He said: "I made a toast and said to the Queen what a happy dinner event it was. It was a great day, and I enjoyed the afternoon tea and the treasure hunt."
Gemma Davies, from Bridgend, who was there with her 10-year-old son Roman said: "It was a truly wonderful day. See the looks on the childrens' faces, knowing that they will always treasure these memories.
"They loved the open carriage ride with the police escort, and then when we got to Clarence House it was beautiful. They even had biscuits with their names on them, and each child was given their own letter for the treasure hunt.
"They were all working together to work out the clues and at one point the Queen helped Roman. She was fabulous with them and really got down to their level."
Tony Curtis MBE, Chairman of Dreams and Wishes presented the Queen with a pink and purple rose (the colours of the charity). He said: "It is an incredible honour and privilege for Dreams and Wishes to be invited to Clarence House by Her Majesty The Queen. Our charity exists to create special moments and lasting memories for children living with serious and life-threatening illnesses, and this visit was a truly unforgettable experience for the children and families attending.
"It was truly magical. We are deeply grateful for Her Majesty's continued support and kindness towards the children and the support she has given our charity over the years."
The children who joined the Queen were: Evie Moran, 10 from Carmarthenshire, Lacey-Lee Kelly, 10, Gracie Power, 11, from Cardiff Maria Belo, six, Rupert Williams, seven from Barry and Roman Davies, 10, from Bridgend.
