When will Fresno County, state candidates take office once results are finalized?

The numbers are still being finalized, but — once Fresno County’s winning candidates are confirmed — here’s when they’ll be starting in their respective offices.

City councilmembers and school board members are typically sworn in during the last board meeting of the year in December.

Fresno Unified’s December agendas haven’t been drafted yet, though Central Unified spokesperson Johnathon Burrows said new trustees will be sworn in on Dec. 15 and immediately take on their responsibilities.

State Center Community College District trustees will be sworn in on Dec. 15 as well, spokesperson Diana Ramirez said.

The term for judges, as well as the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, kicks off in early 2027.

At the state level, senators and assemblymembers begin the first Monday in December, though congresspeople have to wait until January.
