An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle before fleeing from Clovis police officers.

Officers responded just after 9:30 a.m.to an apartment complex near Sunnyside and Shaw avenues.

Clovis police spokesperson Ty Wood said witnesses told officers that the suspect ran toward Clovis Avenue.

Drone First Responder and Fresno Police Department’s helicopter assisted on the search.

Wood said officers arrested the suspect after he ran onto the campus of Sierra Vista Elementary School at Barstow and Pollasky avenues.

Sierra Vista Elementary was placed on a brief lockdown due to the police activity on and around their campus.

School staff also placed Clark Intermediate on a shelter-in-place order and Our Lady of Perpetual Help on a lockdown during the police activity.

Both lockdowns and the shelter in place were lifted as soon as it was determined to be safe.

Wood said officers later discovered evidence from another attempted grand theft of a vehicle in a neighboring apartment complex.

Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Isaac Paradise of Clovis.

He was booked into Fresno County Jail and is facing several felonies.

All stolen property has also been returned to the victims, Wood said.
