Jen Shah Released From Prison Early After Serving Less Than 3 Years
· The Fresno BeeJen Shah is officially a free woman after her early prison release.
A rep confirmed to People on Wednesday, December 10, that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum, 52, was released from the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, that morning after serving less than three years of her six-and-a-half-year sentence.
Further details were not immediately revealed. Shah could return to her home or be transferred to a halfway house to finish her sentence under supervision.
Shah was initially arrested in March 2021 alongside then-assistant Stuart Smith for their role in a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme that involved multiple victims over the age of 55. At the time, she denied her involvement and pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
More than one year later, Shah pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, while the second charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering was dropped as part of the plea deal.
"In 2012 to March 2021 in the Southern District of New York and elsewhere I agreed with others to commit wire fraud," Shah said in a statement at the time. "I knew this was wrong. I knew many people were harmed and I'm so sorry."
Us Weekly confirmed in January 2023 that Shah was sentenced to six and a half years in prison. The following month, she reported to prison in Texas.
After having her sentence reduced multiple times, news broke in November that Shah would be released on December 10.
"Everyone's very grateful for the BOP's decision, especially because it means Jen will be able to reunite with her family for the holidays," Shah's manager, Chris Giovanni, told People in a statement at the time. "It's a gift she doesn't take for granted."
According to Giovanni, Shah was "in a really positive, hopeful place mentally" leading up to her release.
"She's done a lot of reflecting and real growth during her time away and is genuinely not the same woman as she was before. Her focus is on her family and building a healthier, more grounded life," the statement continued. "She understands the seriousness of the mistakes she made and is excited to put this chapter behind her so that she can show everyone the woman she's worked hard to become."
Amid speculation about Shah's potential return to RHOSLC, Andy Cohen shut down the possibility on more than one occasion.
"Jen Shah - I never want to see again," Cohen, 57, told the audience during a Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen Q&A in September.
Earlier this month, Cohen indicated that Bravo was on the same page about Shah's future with the network.
"She's not coming back to RHOSLC," he said on his SiriusXM radio show. "I don't know that I can see Bravo working with her again. Can we put a period at the end of the sentence?"
Shah last appeared on RHOSLC during season 3 in 2023. Season 6 of the reality show has already wrapped filming and is currently airing on Bravo.
