John Mulaney Drags RFK Jr.'s Marriage to Cheryl Hines During Netflix Event
· The Fresno BeeJohn Mulaney is adding a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. impression to his already impressive comedy repertoire.
"If you don't know Bobby - and that's how I know him, as Bobby, that's how much he shouldn't be in the government. I know him. He's comedy adjacent," Mulaney, 43, said during his Netflix "Night of Too Many Stars" comedy set onThursday, May 7, in Los Angeles.
"He's married to that woman from Curb Your Enthusiasm and cheats on her like a dog," Mulaney continued of RFK Jr's wife, Cheryl Hines. "But he likes to be around comedy people."
He added, "Sorry for the pearl clutch, here. There are some west side people who know exactly what I'm talking about. Sorry to drop that public domain information on the Hollywood Bowl."
Kennedy was embroiled in an affair scandal in 2024 when several reports alleged that he was sexting New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi during his presidential campaign. The publication released an apology at the time, claiming that Nuzzi had not disclosed her "personal relationship" with an unnamed person while she was reporting on the election, alluding to Kennedy - although his name was not reported at the time.
"The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict," Nuzzi eventually said in a statement to The New York Times. "I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I've disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York."
Hines eventually addressed the situation in an August 2025 interview with the Wall Street Journal.
"I don't think there's any point to going through every rumor and headline to try to defend or explain it," she said of the affair allegations. "Bobby and I talk about everything, so that's how we move through everything, and we're really good friends, and we trust each other."
Thursday's comedy show served as a fundraiser for the NEXT for Autism foundation. Mulaney said it was the "best benefit" he had ever performed at since Kennedy's Riverkeeper benefit a decade ago.
"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was in charge of a group called the Riverkeeper," Mulaney said, mimicking Kennedy's raspy voice. He explained that Riverkeeper is a group who keeps the Hudson River clean.
"That was his job. That's how good he is at jobs," Mulaney quipped. "His old job was keeping the Hudson River - whose native fish is [a] tied off used condom - clean."
Mulaney put Kennedy's voice back on, adding, "Now I'm in charge of your bones and your tummy."
Mulaney called Kennedy a "stupid f***," noting that his "thing" as a public health official shouldn't be the measles.
"Did you get the measles? Did you read the card, it was from me?" Mulaney continued, putting on the raspy Kennedy voice once again. "Do you like having the measles very much? You don't? Oh no, Bobby Jr. What have we gotten ourselves into? My father was in public service."
Mulaney joked, "My father was a very good man and I'm a very bad man guy. Look at my Gatorade green eyes and skin like snake. Can I be in charge of the way you feel in your body."
Mulaney put his own voice back on to finish that particular joke.
"Enough of that s***," he said. "Stop making me political."
