The Ipoh city council (MBI) has received a RM20 million allocation for the resurfacing of 400 roads in residential areas, according to housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, reported The Star.

This allocation, the highest allocation to a local authority in the country, was approved by the prime minister, and will cover repairs of roads in five parliamentary constituencies. These are Tambun, Gopeng, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur and Batu Gajah. All five are under the maintenance jurisdiction of MBI, the report wrote.

The road resurfacing works are expected to begin soon, and be completed by Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said the housing and local government minister.

“Under the leadership of the mayor, the council will ensure that contractors are selected based on competitive cost-benefit analyses, prioritising quality work. This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the living environment for residents,” Nga said.

Nationally, it would cost RM4 billion to repair all damaged roads in the country, and so the Malaysian government will prioritise the repairs of critically damaged roads, works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said in June this year.
