Residents return to Draper care center after fire prompts temporary evacuation
by Curtis Booker ksl · KSL.comDRAPER — Residents at a rehabilitation care center in Draper are back in the facility after a fire forced evacuations on Wednesday.
The fire started in a resident room at the Draper Rehabilitation and Care Center, 12702 S. Fort Street. At least one man residing at the facility, who had a history of fainting episodes, was taken to a hospital as a precaution, said Draper Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Holt.
"It was going to be easier to facilitate his needs at a hospital under supervision — not necessarily related to the fire," Holt said.
The fire triggered the building's sprinklers to activate, which put the fire out.
Residents were temporarily evacuated to Draper Elementary School while crews ensured the building was safe for them to return.
The fire remains under investigation.
