9-year-old dies in ATV crash in Utah County

PAYSON — A 9-year-old boy died in an ATV accident Sunday, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:30 a.m., the boy was riding an ATV with his stepfather on West Mountain when the utility vehicle crashed and rolled, Sgt. Ray Ormond said.

Details about how the crash happened were not immediately made available, other than the accident left the child "mortally injured," despite him wearing protective equipment, Ormond said.

Utah County Sheriff's Office deputies and first responders attempted lifesaving measures on the mountain before the boy was flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi, where he died.

"Our team is still working on the case, preliminary information is leaning towards it being a very tragic accident," Ormond said.
