Mario Lopez to host 'Presidential 1776 Award' special on CBS
by Annie Martin · UPIJune 5 (UPI) -- Actor and television personality Mario Lopez will host the Presidential 1776 Award special in June.
Lopez, 52, will oversee the first-ever Presidential 1776 Award national finals, a competition for high school students to showcase their knowledge of U.S. civics.
Finalists from each region of the United States will gather in Washington to answer questions about "the Constitution, America's founding principles, and defining moments in U.S. history," according to a press release.
The event will air June 30 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream the next day on Paramount+.
"We are thrilled to have Mario Lopez help bring these inspiring students and their impressive achievements to audiences nationwide," U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said in a statement.
The top three finalists will win a total of $250,000 in scholarships.
The Presidential 1776 Award is presented by the U.S. Department of Education as part of the America250 celebration marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
