Martin Lewis issues 'big' council tax warning and says 'spread word'

Martin Lewis has issued a "big" warning over council tax - and urged his fanbase and ITV followers to "spread the word". The Money Saving Expert founder will be back on ITV tonight, with the Martin Lewis Money Show, for a council tax cost cutting special.

Martin wrote: "Pls spread word, tonight @itvMLshow 8pm a COUNCIL TAX COST CUTTING SPECIAL. - 100,000s are in too high a band & could be due £1,000s back. Many more are missing out on crucial discounts or reductions. Plus there's over £100m of unclaimed council tax credit

"Big show. Do watch." The MSE founder will appear from 8pm on Tuesday (November 12) as part of the special. A Twitter/X user said: "Of course I agree with all this. But ultimately won’t this just lead to higher taxes as another gap will need to be plugged."

Martin replied saying: "ill be covering that too." A second Twitter/X user wrote: "Will you be covering how to find out if we are?" A third typed: "Done. I'm looking forward to it, Martin." Another said: "My neighbour in identical size house, built together, had band lowered. I was told no. I now have to research houses nearby to justify mine being lowered. It shouldn’t be this difficult."

Another said: "We been waiting ages to hear back from our council re SMI payment even though they have medical certificates etc." And another wrote: "And those who end up needing to pay much more??" Another said in reply to the consumer champion: "Most aware and doing this. Fact is council tax should be abolished it's higher than ever for nothing back in return."

And another asked Mr Lewis in response: "you had any luck with talking with anyone in government about the mess that is council tax as a whole ?"
