Sekhukhune chairman on pre-game goalmouth drama with Orlando Pirates

Sekhukhune United chairman Jonas Malatjie has had his say on an incident in which security personnel associated with Orlando Pirates appeared to intimidate the club's goalkeepers during a warm-up session.

Prior to the start of the Betway Premiership fixture held at Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday, security personnel from Pirates were observed preventing the Sekhukhune goalkeepers from performing their customary drills and warm-up routines.

The incident has prompted questions concerning the fairness of the practices of the Soweto giants.

Rules made clear

The visitors’ goalkeeping department was reportedly on the wrong side of the PSL rules by conducting their warm-up activities within a section designated to the opposition.

In accordance with the regulations of the Premier Soccer League, teams are permitted to conduct their pre-match warm-up activities only in designated areas of the pitch corresponding to their assigned dressing rooms and technical benches.

"I do not have any further comment regarding this matter. I am aware of the incident, but it is not appropriate for me to comment further," said Malatjie said, speaking to a KickOff.

The clash ended 2-0 in favour of Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men, with the two sides set for the third time in the space of seven days for the second leg of the MTN8 semi-finals this weekend.

“Yes, it’s not easy to play a team two times in a row, we had a very difficult first half, I think the opponent came to press us, very tight, aggressive, we didn’t manage to find the free space, free man to come out with the ball to play the game that we want,” Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou told SuperSport TV.
