No personal issues with KCR, only ideological differences: Kavitha

According to her, every state should have a fixed number of Rajya Sabha seats and voting rights so that a balance is maintained among all states.

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) founder K Kavitha on Saturday, May 2, said her criticism of former BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao was not personal but political.

“In no way have I criticised my father. I have no problem with him. I only have ideological differences with the party (BRS) which is headed by KCR,” she said.

Holding her first “meet the press” programme at Basheerbagh Press Club, after the announcement of her political party on April 25, Kavitha explained why she differed with KCR.

She claimed that Rs 1,25,000 crore spent by BRS on Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) and Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) could irrigate only 1 lakh acres.

Claiming that there has been a lost opportunity cost of Rs 2,50,000 crore during the ten-year BRS government, she said 20 to 30 lakh job aspirants lost their precious years due to frequent paper leaks during that period.

Draws a parallel between working in media, political party

On a question posed by a reporter at her about why she was silent when she was part of BRS, but was complaining now, Kavitha questioned the reporter back, asking her whether she as a journalist would work against the policy of the news outlet’s management, if she differed with it.

“I have represented the issues to the party leadership vocally multiple times, with evidence about corruption as well. But I had to follow my boss’ orders as it was my duty,” she said.

She, however, chose not to answer a question about why she was targeting Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao, by making corruption allegations against him.

On BRS issuing show cause notice to Rohit Reddy, but not her

On a question about the possibility of two power centers in KCR’s family with BRS and TRS operating separately, Kavitha said that BRS leadership suspended her without any show cause notice, though they treated Pilot Rohit Reddy differently by issuing him show cause notice when allegations against him surfaced.

“Tie me to the Telangana Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park and beat me with stones if I do anything wrong,” she declared, which was the repeat of her father’s signature style, language and words from the distant past.

Kavitha on delimitation, US Senate-like powers to Rajya Sabha

Kavitha proposed that the Rajya Sabha be re-envisioned along the lines of the United States Senate, with enhanced powers to determine the fate of legislation impacting states.

She said the Centre could take population as the benchmark for deciding the number of seats in the Lok Sabha under delimitation, even if some states lose representation in the process.

However, such losses could be compensated by giving every state a fixed number of Rajya Sabha seats, irrespective of their size, enabling equal voting rights for the states.

“Some states may get more, some states may get less in delimitation—that is a different story. But the Rajya Sabha should be given Senate-like powers, like the US Senate. Every state should have a fixed number of representatives in the Rajya Sabha,” she said.

“The Rajya Sabha should be given powers similar to the Senate, where finance bills and all other bills should be placed before it. If the states do not agree, the bill should be stalled. That way, the power and importance of the states, as well as their political and financial security, will be ensured,” she added.

According to her, every state should have a fixed number of Rajya Sabha seats and voting rights so that a balance is maintained among all states.

“That will certainly uphold the Union and the federal structure of our Constitution and protect its spirit. I will send detailed notes to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and to the Delimitation Commission, if one is constituted,” she added.

Kavitha said her party would focus 95 per cent on Telangana issues, but will fight the Centre when it came to the issues affecting the state.

Explains Panchajanya- her five assurances

Alleging that the BRS, Congress, and BJP are now riddled with corruption, she announced “Panchajanya,” a set of five promises, including free education, free healthcare, filling job vacancies, encouraging innovative business ideas, and achieving social justice.

Elaborating on the five assurances, she said that if TRS came to power, it will bear all the costs of education from school to college, and also covering professional courses- of those studying in private educational institutions.

She said all costs of healthcare will be borne by her government for the treatment in private hospitals, no matter how much the cost may be.

Kavitha assured that right after coming to power, 4 lakh job vacancies will be filled by her government, and an additional 1 lakh supernumerary jobs will be filled with the activists who fought for Telangana’s statehood.

She pointed out that there were 50,000 vacant backlog posts of SCs, and other backlog posts for STs and persons with disabilities which were not being filled. She assured that 2 lakh vacancies out of the 4 lakh she intends to fill, will be with teachers, so that public education sector could be strengthened.

She said she wanted to fund innovative business startups among three age groups, with the most prominent section being the Gen Z, between the age group of 18 and 25. The second group will be between 25 and 45 years. For these sections, she assured that her government will provide loans ranging between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 crore, which will be free from bank linkage to the entrepreneurs, so that they can establish their businesses.

Talking about her plans for social justice, she said that unlike the present government which she claimed was not spending the funds allocated to SC/ST sub-plan, or the BCs and minorities; she will ensure that the most vulnerable sections will be addressed first.

She said a separate department and geriatric ministry for the senior citizens was needed at the State and the Centre level, as this section needed to be taken care of.

She also said welfare of farmers will be among the top priorities, in such a way that any farmer going to a government office will be given due respect and the issues of the farmer will be resolved immediately.

“The problem is that the governments don’t have motherly-touch. When that touch is there, priorities will be streamlines,” she noted.

Criticizes CM Revanth Reddy

Criticising the Congress government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, she flagged issues like children dying due to contaminated food in the Gurukuls, the demolition of huts at Velugumatla in Khammam, the death of a girl child in Kummera village of Nagarkurnool district, and the rising rape crimes against women (2,500 incidents in 2025 as per NCRB data).

“The chief minister holds both the home and education portfolios. But he doesn’t have time to review these departments,” she claimed.

Observing that only once did the chief minister attend Prajavani held at Praja Bhavan, she wondered how many times did he go to the secretariat, as he was holding most of his meetings at the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC).

“I don’t know if he too has the Vaasthu problem,” she quipped.

As Modi to declare PRLIS as national project, give funds

She also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs of not doing enough to bring funds from the Centre for the development of Telangana.

“Prime Minister Modi is coming to Telangana on May 10. He should announce national project status for PRLIS, explain why the BC Reservation Bill and the Women’s Reservation Bill were not passed by the Centre, and should come with Rs 2-3 lakh crore for Telangana,” she hoped.

BJP the only party to set deadlines for murdering its people

“BJP is the only party in the world to kill its own people by setting up a deadline. It is evident that they are against social justice,” she said, commenting on the Operation Kagaar launched to rid the country of Maoists.

She felt that ideology can’t be forcefully curtailed, and that only showing a solution to the problem could be the best resolution.

She appealed to the surrendered Maoists to join mainstream politics in whichever party they preferred to join, and continue serving the people by representing their issues at the appropriate forums.

Urges CM Revanth to implement BC-E reservations for Muslims

She also suggested Revanth Reddy to use his cordial relations with his older brother (Narendra Modi), and see that 4 percent reservation for Muslims in the BC-E category be implemented in the state, just like it is being implemented in Gujarat where BJP has been in power.

Asserting that Panchajanya will be the tool for her party to achieve Sarvodaya, she said that “Telangana, Telangana, and only Telangana” will be the ideology of her party.

“I don’t think people should believe someone on the face value. Look at the steps being taken by me, my journey, and my work. We have been working constructively, with clarity of thought,” she urged, also disclosing that she will be holding issue-based padayatras in the near future.
