Mysuru: Mysuru’s grand Dasara celebrations have entered the Guinness World Records with a spectacular drone show featuring 3,473 drones. The display, held at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap on October 18, created the world’s largest aerial image of a bird, depicting a dancing peacock in the night sky.

Thousands of colourful drones flew in coordinated formations, recreating the Indian national bird with its feathers spread out. Guinness World Records officials assessed the performance and presented an official certificate to the organisers and the state government.

The event was organised in collaboration with Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) and the Karnataka government’s Energy Department. Delhi-based BotLab Dynamics executed the drone show.

The display also featured images of a lion, a butterfly, a soldier holding the tricolour and Goddess Chamundeshwari, adding a modern technological attraction to Mysuru’s traditional Dasara festivities.

The achievement builds on the team’s previous record during the 2025 Dasara celebrations, when 2,983 drones were used to create an aerial image of a flying tiger emerging from a flower.

Mysuru Dasara is renowned for its royal procession, cultural programmes and illuminated landmarks. This year’s drone spectacle added a new dimension to the celebrations, combining technology with the festival’s cultural significance.

The coordinated formations were created using specialised software that assigned individual flight paths and positions to each drone. Colour-changing LED lights fitted on the drones enabled the team to produce detailed images in the sky.

The record-setting display has placed Mysuru’s Dasara celebrations in the international spotlight, showcasing the potential of drone technology in large-scale public events.
