Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man accused of robbing pedestrians, burgling homes and stealing two-wheelers across Cyberabad has been jailed under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act, with police saying 64 criminal cases are registered against him.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh ordered the detention of Derangula Ravi, alias Gaja, also known as Gaja Donga, declaring him a “goonda.” He has been lodged in Central Prison, Cherlapalli, in Medchal district.

Police said Ravi, a resident of Suraram Colony in Jeedimetla, turned to crime for quick money. They said he targeted people walking alone and families living in isolated houses, threatening them with injury or death to extort their valuables.

He also allegedly roamed residential areas at night, broke into locked houses and made off with gold and silver ornaments and other valuables. Police said he used knives and other dangerous weapons against people who tried to stop him.

Ravi allegedly stole parked two-wheelers as well, fleeing the scene each time.

Suraram police had arrested Ravi and sent him to jail in the latest case. The Cyberabad police then invoked the PD Act to keep him in custody and prevent him from allegedly committing further offences.
