Woman strangles daughter to death over phone use in Hyderabad

The woman allegedly attempted to portray the death as a suicide to conceal the crime.

Hyderabad: The Future City Police arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her 14-year-old daughter following an argument over mobile phone usage in Kothur, under the Shadnagar zone.

The accused, identified as Vijayalakshmi, allegedly strangled her daughter Suvarna to death during a quarrel over the use of a mobile phone, according to the police.

After the incident, the woman allegedly attempted to portray the death as a suicide to conceal the crime, preliminary investigation revealed.

Police grew suspicious over the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death and conducted a detailed investigation. The postmortem report played a crucial role in establishing the circumstances of the death and uncovering the alleged murder, officials said.

Following the investigation, police arrested Vijayalakshmi and produced her before a court. She was remanded to judicial custody.
