Las Vegas woman charged in connection with drug trafficking crime

A Las Vegas woman made her initial appearance in federal court Wednesday in connection with a drug trafficking case as a result of a Las Vegas Homeland Security Task Force investigation, according to a U.S. Department of Justice release.

Olga Josefina Mexia is charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, the release states.

Inspectors with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted a controlled delivery Monday of approximately one kilogram of fentanyl to Mexia’s residence, the release said. Upon delivery, Henderson SWAT entered the residence. During a search, law enforcement found bulk cash, fentanyl powder in bulk and individually packaged, and two firearms, according to the DOJ.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Brenda Weksler. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Brister.
