Police provide details of fatal Walmart officer-involved shooting

Las Vegas police will discuss the Walmart shooting that left one man dead and another injured during a Friday afternoon news conference.

Travis Dewayne Ward, 35, was shot by Metropolitan Police Department officer Cristobal Magana, 29, outside the store early Tuesday morning, according to police.

A Metro report said that Ward had shown up to the store with a gun after his wife, Raqiya Halima Smith, got into a fight outside the store with another man, Kwame Swain.

Ward shot Swain in the abdomen and tried to fire again, but his gun malfunctioned, police said.

As Ward exited the store holding the handgun, Magana shot him multiple times, according to police.

A Metro spokesperson said Thursday that Swain was in the hospital.

Swain was arrested and booked in absentia on unrelated misdemeanor domestic battery charges and a felony count of attempted coercion constituting domestic violence

Smith and the woman she was at the store with, Ameea Blue, were arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of conspiracy to commit battery, battery with a deadly weapon and disregarding the safety of people and property resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
