Southern Nevada inmate dies less than 2 months into sentence, officials say

A High Desert State Prison inmate died less than two months into his sentence, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Scott Trotta, 49, died at University Medical Center in Las Vegas on Aug. 31, corrections officials said in a news release this month. He was serving a 19- to 48-month sentence at the Indian Springs prison for failing to register as a convicted sex offender, the department said.

Trotta entered the Nevada Department of Corrections on July 17, officials said, about a month and a half before his death. Trotta’s cause and manner of death are both still pending as of Monday, according to a Clark County coroner’s office database.
