Inmate dies at Las Vegas hospital, officials say

A High Desert State Prison inmate died at a Las Vegas hospital on Tuesday, according to state prison officials.

Derick Butler, 38, was pronounced dead at Centennial Hills Hospital, the Nevada Department of Corrections said in a news release Wednesday.

Butler was serving a sentence of 24 to 60 months at High Desert, in Indian Springs, for possessing a firearm as an ex-felon, the news release said. An autopsy has been requested, officials said.
