LETTER: Trump, the ultimate deconstructionist

by · Las Vegas Review-Journal

President Donald Trump is the ultimate deconstructionist —not in the philosophical sense, but through his systematic dismantling and reversal of executive actions carried out by the Obama and Biden administrations.

To date, Mr. Trump has signed 274 executive orders during his second term, adding to the 220 issued during his first. Additionally, the current administration has revoked 78 Biden-era orders and presidential memorandums. While presidents possess the constitutional authority to advance their mandates through lawful executive directives, certain actions carry profound consequences.

Among the most impactful was Trump’s 2018 presidential memorandum unilaterally withdrawing the United States from the Iran nuclear deal. This multi-national framework enforced stringent verifications and transparency regarding Iran’s nuclear program while strictly limiting its production of enriched uranium. Mr. Trump’s withdrawal, compounded by the Biden administration’s subsequent failure to re-engage, left Iranian uranium enrichment unchecked.

This short-sighted policy now serves as a direct through-line to the current geopolitical instability, effectively granting Iran strategic leverage over the Strait of Hormuz.

While the billionaire class remains insulated, everyday citizens continue to bear the economic, political and domestic burdens of this volatile political landscape. The nation is being consumed by partisan dysfunction, and the American public deserves better. It is time to clean house — and not with the Democratic Socialists of America.
