Two people were killed in a fiery crash that involved a semitruck and a speeding car near the North Las Vegas Airport on Thursday, police said.

The North Las Vegas Police Department said in a news release that the crash happened just after 4:15 p.m. near West Carey Avenue and Simmons Street, which is just east of the North Las Vegas Airport.

“Preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound on Simmons Street at a high rate of speed, while a Freightliner tractor trailer was turning left from southbound Simmons Street into an industrial complex, crossing the northbound lanes,” a North Las Vegas police news release said. “The two vehicles collided, resulting in a fire involving both vehicles.”

The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene, police said. The identities of the drivers had not been released as of Thursday night.

North Las Vegas police, along with the Nevada Highway Patrol, continued to investigate the deadly crash late Thursday, police said.

Simmons between Carey and Evans would be closed for several hours after the crash, the news release said.

Police said anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
