Nearly 700 pounds of fireworks confiscated in Clark County during holiday

Thirty citations for illegal fireworks were issued in Clark County during the Independence Day holiday weekend and nearly 700 pounds of fireworks were confiscated, the county said Monday.

In addition, the Clark County Fire Department responded to 176 calls involving outside fires and 26 building/vehicle fires overnight during the July 4 holiday. On a typical day, CCFD responds to an average of 15 outside fires and six building fires.

Through a partnership with the Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County and Las Vegas fire departments, 111 citations have been issued and more than 27,100 pounds of illegal fireworks have been collected this year.

Also Monday, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada said its volunteers responded to 10 home fires across the Las Vegas Valley on Saturday and Sunday, helping 32 people forced from their homes during the holiday weekend.
