2 more suspects arrested in tattoo artist’s slaying
by Glenn Puit / Las Vegas Review-Journal · Las Vegas Review-JournalPolice have arrested two more suspects in the killing of a 30-year-old tattoo artist in the northwest Las Vegas Valley.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the artist, Deven Mays, went with his wife Brianna Benevedes and their 3-year-old son to an apartment complex near West Ann Road and Interstate 11 on March 30. The purpose of the trip was to carry out an illegal marijuana sale with Miles Spivey, 18, police said in an arrest report for Spivey.
When the couple arrived, police said, Spivey hopped in their vehicle, asked for the marijuana and pointed a gun at Benevedes. Another man then approached the car and pointed a gun inside when shots rang out.
Police said Mays was shot in the chest as he attempted to drive off. He died at the scene. Benevedes was shot in the leg and survived. A bullet narrowly missed the child’s car seat.
Spivey turned himself in to police days after the shooting. Police said Thursday that two more suspects, Daequan McGee, 18, and Kyree Brown, 20, were both arrested in California. McGee was extradited back to Las Vegas on Tuesday, while Brown was jailed in Riverside and awaiting extradition.
All three are charged with murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and other charges.
