Police are expected to provide more details Friday afternoon on an officer-involved shooting Tuesday in downtown Las Vegas.

Assistant Sheriff Bryan Peterson will speak about the events surrounding the shooting at an apartment building in the 200 block of North 11th Street, near East Fremont Street and Maryland Parkway. The officer involved in the shooting, Daniel Abraham, 22, has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the shooting.

Police previously said officers took a man into custody following a standoff that started at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and lasted until about 11 p.m. The suspect was subsequently identified in Las Vegas Justice Court proceedings as George Barrios, 39, of Las Vegas.

A Clark County prosecutor said officers were called to the apartment building because neighbors of Barrios reported he was acting erratically. The prosecutor said Barrios brandished a firearm during the encounter with officers. Police said a gunshot was fired by police, and Barrios was not struck by gunfire.

Arrest records show Barrios is facing counts of assault on a protected person with use of a deadly weapon, destroying the property of another, resisting a public officer with a firearm and possession of a gun by a prohibited person.
