LETTER: The high cost of attacking Iran

The “small potatoes” conflict, as President Trump describes the unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation, the war with Iran, reveals the cost of potatoes is quite hefty. The Pentagon Inspector General and other watchdogs for the State Department have revealed the true numbers of this ill-conceived war for Americans to digest.

From late February at the start to June 30 the U.S. has expended $33.4 billion. Included are munitions, troop deployment/payroll, energy/fuel to move assets around hither and yon like confused chess pieces. Facility damage of U.S. bases and diplomatic outposts is estimated to be $184 million. Those facilities in 8 Middle East countries are destroyed and not to be rebuilt. That would be throwing good money after bad.

Also, contrary to our Prevaricator in Chief, the war has caused our munitions stockpiles to be dangerously diminished as the report says. These will take nearly 3 years for defense contractors to replenish them. But in Trumps alternate universe, the weapons “are being delivered on a daily basis to our Forces in the Middle East.”

Since we (any right-thinking Americans) know that Trump loves to play fast and loose with the truth, I think I’ll go with the Inspector General’s money pit assessment.
