Three Metropolitan Police Department officers involved in a fatal shooting Wednesday in the eastern Las Vegas Valley have been identified as Marcos Vega, Gianni Rivera and Jhovany Romo.

The trio responded to reports of a man with a gun near East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Sloan Lane, east of North Nellis Boulevard, at around 12:30 p.m., police said. Dispatchers had received reports of a gunman firing into traffic.

When officers responded, the gunman refused commands to drop the weapon, pointed the gun at officers and fired a shot toward them, police said. Officers shot and killed the person.

The gunman’s identity had not been released by the Clark County coroner’s office as of Friday morning.

Vega, 28, has worked with Metro since 2020. Rivera, 28, has been with the department since 2021. Romo, 33, was hired on as a Metro officer in 2023. All are on paid administrative leave pending a full review of the shooting. All three are assigned to Metro’s Northeast Area Command.

The shooting was the sixth this year involving Metro officers, police said.
