A man shot and killed a former employee of his workplace who chased one of his peers with a gun on Sunday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Lt. Robert Price said police received a 911 call around 5:15 p.m. claiming a man was chasing another man with a firearm at the 1100 block of South Fort Apache Road, near west Charleston and south Rampart boulevards. Police received an update shortly after that shots were fired in the area, Price said.

An ex-employee of a business near the scene came to their former workplace and started a confrontation with a current employee, Price said, but the reason for the confrontation is still under investigation.

Price declined to name where the employees worked when asked. Law enforcement set up a perimeter around the back of a Chevron gas station with a Terrible’s convenience store, Roberto’s Taco Shop and Jiffy Lube.

After the confrontation began, Price said the former employee began chasing the current employee with a gun. As the chase continued, a different employee of the business grabbed a gun from his vehicle and shot the ex-employee, Price said.

When police arrived, Price said they found a man laying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Price said the man was pronounced dead at the scene after medical services tried to treat his injuries.

Price said police don’t believe the ex-employee fired any shots. The number of shots fired by the current employee is still under investigation, he said. The man who was chased was not injured, Price said, and no other bystanders were injured.

The shooter remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police after they took him into custody, Price said. He added that the case showed “elements of self-defense and the self-defense of others.”

“We will do a full investigation and we will present it to the Clark County district attorney’s office,” Price said.
