East valley crash kills female victim on scooter, police say

Metro said a 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on Boulder Highway at the intersection of East Flamingo Road at 9:45 p.m. A pedestrian, riding a Razor scooter, was crossing Boulder Highway and failed to obey the crossing signal, according to the release.
“A collision occurred when the pedestrian entered the path of the Hyundai. The front of the Hyundai contacted the pedestrian, causing the pedestrian to sustain substantial injuries,” the release said.
The pedestrian, whose name and age was not provided in the release, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 43-year-old woman, remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, Metro said. The driver and passengers in the Hyundai, an 18-year-old and 5-year-old, did not claim any injuries.
This crash resulted in the 59th traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. It remains under investigation.
