8-year-old in critical condition after being hit by car late Sunday night, Las Vegas police say

An 8-year-old pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle late Sunday night in the northeast Las Vegas Valley, according to police.

Police said in a news release that the child was crossing North Las Vegas Boulevard west of its intersection with North Lamb Boulevard, outside of a marked or implied crosswalk, at 9:33 p.m. when they were struck by a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

The child was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.

The release noted that the driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and did not display any signs of impairment.
