Woman shot, Cedar Hill standoff ends after exchange of gunfire with police
Though two officers fired their weapons, police said the only injury reported occurred before officers arrived.
by NBCDFW Staff · 5 NBCDFWTwo Cedar Hill police officers are on administrative leave after an exchange of gunfire early Monday morning.
Cedar Hill Police said officers were called to a home on Sleepy Hollow Drive just before 2 a.m., where a man said people were trying to harm his family.
As officers were driving to the home, dispatch reported hearing a gunshot. When officers arrived, they said they were fired upon and that two police officers returned fire.
Cedar Hill Police said the officers were able to evacuate two women from the home, including one who they said had been shot before officers arrived. She was taken to the hospital and was listed in serious condition.
Meanwhile, officers surrounded the home and called the Southwest Regional Response Group’s Tactical Team for assistance. At approximately 3:36 a.m., police said, a man who was inside the home surrendered without further incident.
Police identified the man as 44-year-old Dustin Hancock and said he had been booked into the DeSoto Jail on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence) and two counts of aggravated assault on a public servant.
No officers were injured during the incident, and it is not believed that the officers' gunfire injured anyone.
The Grand Prairie Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit will investigate the officer-involved shooting. In accordance with department policy, following a critical incident, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
